Dear Parents and Students,
We would like to take the time to say how thrilled we are by the enthusiasm of the Crescent students and how involved they are getting in Scholastic Reading Counts! If you have time to drop by the library on either campus after school you will see students taking quizzes, helping in the library and of course, looking for a great book to read. Our Reading Counts! Reading Stars award boards and window are beginning to fill up with student's names and stars for their reading achievements.
If you have questions that need answering regarding the program please feel free to drop in and talk with us. After school is probably the easiest time to catch us when we are not as busy with students. Students may check out books and take quizzes during recesses, lunch and after school.
Please log onto www.scholastic.com and look up Reading Counts! titles and information that could benefit your son or daughter. Easy directions to follow.
Log onto www.scholastic.com. Search the top right of the page where it says librarians and click on it. Scroll down on right and find ReadingCounts!, click on reading management and quizzes. Scroll down and find the link e-catalog. This will take you to Scholastic's e-catalog site. You can search for a book by title, author or keyword. When you find a book you are looking for, simply click on the title and you will get all the information you need, such as: Genre and content of the book, reading level, and Lexile level.
Please suggest to your child that he/she find books that are within about 50 point of their lexile level in the beginning. Points for the quizzes are not as important as the lexile of the book.
We hope this helps with the fun search.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Hooper (Crescent Intermediate Librarian) and
Mrs. Sluyters (Crescent Primary Librarian)
